When Right is Wrong

There is a mistake I see virtually every man make in recovery. It is the mistake of defending "rightness." Let me explain.

Every man who enters recovery has a history of deception; of others as well as himself. He has told so many lies it would be pointless to try and tally them up. When the truth of his secrets comes to light, the people closest to him recoil in shock and hurt. They feel the sting of betrayal that his lies brought. They wonder if they can ever again believe anything this man tells them.

Men: Get Back in the Battle

As a pastor and a professional counselor, I've noticed an alarming trend among many Christian men - they've simply given up in the battle for their own sexual purity.  Even though the activities these men engage in - like Internet Pornography - are often in violation of their very own conscience, they've simply acquiesced and are no longer even fighting back.  One big reason men give up in this way is because of their miserable track record.  After failing repeatedly, many men surrender to the lies that they cannot change, and they're going to fail anyway, so what's the difference?  By giving up in this way, the enemy of their soul has them exactly where he wants them - defeated and neutralized - far from the warrior poets they're called to be in the kingdom of God.

My Biggest Lie

God has made great progress in this battle for my mind. Pornography does not rule every moment of my day anymore, although it frequently comes to mind. Stress, disappointment and disagreements with my wife bring me down to the point my instincts crave a quick shot of adrenalin. Through this battle, I hear a common lie which is the toughest to shake. That lie prevents me from claiming further victory. Maybe you can relate.
